About Irish Guided Walks
The driving force behind Irish Guided Walks is Ronan Friel. He was born in Dublin in 1982 and his love of the mountains comes from the amount of time he spent during his childhood in the mountains of north Donegal where his family, as the surname suggests, originated. Ronan has successfully completed the mountain skills programme recognised by the Irish Mountain Training Board, BOS. He has first aid...
certification to remote emergency care level 3. He also has cardiac first responder and artificial electronic defibrillator (AED) certification. He is a qualified "Leave no Trace" trainer. Ronan has extensive skills in navigation, night navigation, rope work and rock climbing and is by trade, an electrician. His love of hill walking and rock climbing has led him on to more and more challenging activities.
He is involved in mountain biking and mountain trail running. He has climbed in the French Alps and done winter climbing in Scotland and Slovenia. He took part in the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail in 2006. He is a Presidential Award Leader with Gaisce, The President's Award. Ronan is also a volunteer with Dublin / Wicklow mountain rescue.
